I am a marine biologist / bio-acoustician who has been studying marine mammals since 2004. My current expertise is mostly in marine mammal biology and the analysis of passive acoustic data.
During my Ph.D. at the National Institute of Scientific Research in Canada and post-doctoral fellowship at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, I studied the impact of contaminants on the immune system of several marine mammal species. From there, I worked for a Canadian underwater consulting company (JASCO Applied Sciences) as a bio-acoustician for 9 years focusing on the acoustic spatial and temporal distribution of marine fauna (mainly pinniped and cetacean species) notably in the Arctic.
I joined the Marine Mammal and Turtle Division’s Passive Acoustic Ecology Program in 2021 as a University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)-contracted postdoctoral associate, helping with density estimation and project management as part of the Open Ocean noise reduction restoration and Restore Science Gulf-wide passive acoustic monitoring projects. Currently, I work at NOAA SEFSC as an Assistant Scientist for the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS).
I am currently involved in multiple projects including studying beaked whales' acoustic and diving parameters using acoustic tracking in the Gulf of Mexico and presence of marine mammals in the Caribbean Sea using gliders.
I am also a Visiting Scientist at the University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada) working with students in the Juanes Lab in the Department of Biology and a Courtesy Research Assistant Professor in the Institute of Environment, in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education (CASE), at Florida International University.
